Walter Sisulu University is one of six comprehensive universities which offer academic and technological qualifications. WSU is a developmental university that focuses on urban renewal and rural development. The University is named in honor of the iconic South African liberation struggle hero, the late Walter Max Ulyate Sisulu who was a close comrade of Nelson Mandela.

COMPUTING IN THE FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES
The Faculty of Health Sciences is dedicated to ensuring that our curriculum fully incorporates computer literacy, computer-assisted learning, and health informatics.
Computer-Assisted Learning in the Curriculum
- Each first-year student must spend one afternoon per week in the computer laboratories from 14:00 to 17:00 as part of the curriculum.
- Students will receive ongoing instruction in a variety of programs during these lab sessions, such as the Internet, online library catalogs, and medical search engines, for example.
- Along with other curriculum-related assignments and exercises, students will also use computers to practice for group sessions.
- During orientation, students will be placed in an afternoon group.
- Attendance of these sessions is compulsory.
- The student training laboratories in the Resource Centre will primarily be used by first-year students in the Health Sciences Faculty for self-study and training.
- Students can also use the computer lab on the fourth floor of the Health Sciences Library building when these spaces are being used for instruction.
ACCOMMODATION
- All dormitories at the Nelson Mandela Drive Site may currently accommodate students from the Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Before being allowed to live in homes, students must complete the entire registration process.
- Additionally, a student must pay the semester or year’s initial residential deposit.
- Only after acquiring a clearance receipt may a student claim a room assignment.
- The Registration Office will have application forms for residences available. Call the Office of the Dean of Students at (phone) +27 (0) 47 502 2623 for additional information.
TRANSPORT
- The Faculty provides transport service from the University to places of learning at scheduled times.
- Students are expected to strictly conform to scheduled times without exception.
- The transportation of students from the University to Mthatha General Hospital is a privilege and not a right.
