This comprehensive guide provides valuable insight into UniZulu, including admission requirements, courses offered, campus facilities, and more. Let’s take a look at the important details that candidates should know.
UniZulu Admission Requirement
Prospective students are highly urged to speak with the admissions office for assistance and more information on the prerequisites as each Faculty has its own unique requirements. For more information on how to calculate points, see the tables below.
ADMISSION TO DEGREE PROGRAMMES (after 2007)
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 30% in the language of instruction at the higher education institution, as certified by Umalusi, along with an achievement rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50–59%) or better in four subjects selected from the list of approved 20-credit NSC subjects below (referred to as the designated subject list), will be the minimum requirements for admission.
ADMISSION TO DEGREE PROGRAMMES (prior to 2008)
An old Senior Certificate (obtained prior to 2008) that bears the endorsement that the holder has met the minimum matriculation standards set forth by law for admission to bachelor’s degree study at a South African university.
MATURE AGE CERTIFICATE
Applicants who obtained a Senior certificate/school leaving certificate from the matriculation examination or an equivalent certificate but did not meet the requirements in subsections (a) and (b) but seek to be considered for conditional exemption may be taken into consideration for academic programs specifying “Matric Exemption” provided they are 23 years of age or older and meet the other requirements.
ADMISSION TO HIGHER CERTIFICATE
A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum level 2 (30% or above) in the language of instruction at the higher education institution as well as one home language as recognized by the Council for General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) is the prerequisite for admission. Additionally, candidates need to have four NSC 20 credit subjects that are recognized. Depending on the institution and the program, specific combinations of recognized NSC courses and levels of achievement may be necessary. For instance, a college may decide that a Higher Certificate in Marketing also needs a certain degree of English proficiency and a related approved subject, in addition to the NSC.
