QUALIFICATIONS
The laws and rules governing teacher education at the national level in South Africa are constantly changing. This indicates that while the University Prospectus’s information on education may have been accurate at the time of publishing, numerous changes could happen in 2014. Depending on staff availability, student enrollment, and need, the Faculty of Education may confer the following certificates, diplomas, and degrees in 2014.
The admission policy of the University of Fort Hare
The University of Fort Hare strives to entice students of academic caliber who have the capacity to achieve at the higher education level, are subject to laws and higher education policy, and are conscious of its mission and fundamental principles. While cognizant of gender disparities in participation rates in some of its programs, UFH is committed to the promotion of equal opportunities in the provision of access to its academic programs, and in particular, to increasing the participation of students from historically underprivileged and non-traditional educational backgrounds.

Admission requirements
Under-qualified teachers
- A practicing teacher in the GET/FET Band with at least 3 years of teaching experience,
- A first teaching qualification: PTC/JSTC/equivalent, and Senior Certificate
- All applicants are required to write a Placement and Admission Test (PAT) in Language and Mathematical Literacy, administered by the TLC
Un-qualified teachers:
- A practicing FET College lecturer with no professional teacher’s qualification/a practicing teacher in a school with no professional qualification,
- Three years of teaching experience, and
- Senior Certificate
- All applicants are required to write a Placement and Admission Test (PAT) in Language and Mathematical Literacy, administered by the TLC.
ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION
Admission
- Has a 3-year teacher qualification or the equivalent thereof (eg PTD, SPTD, or PTC + 240 NPDE)
- Has passed Mathematics at Grade 10 (Std 8) level or passed. Mathematics as a subject in the final year of his/her initial teaching qualification.
- Is currently teaching Mathematics in the GET band of schooling or has access to such a mathematics class?
