One of the six faculties at the University of Fort Hare, the faculty of health sciences is located on the East London campus. Five departments make up the Faculty of Health Sciences: Public Health, Natural Sciences, Human Movement, Rehabilitation Studies, and Nursing Science. Agricultural engineering, agroforestry, crop production, genetics and plant breeding, horticulture, plant protection, and soil science are the disciplines that are included in this program. A solid foundation in the physical and biological sciences underpins each of these. The sustainable, intensive, and extensive production of food and fiber crops for domestic and international markets is given special consideration.

Agricultural Economics and Extension:

In order to grasp actual human issues, like rural poverty, food insecurity, and the myriad difficulties faced by both large- and small-scale producers, agricultural economics is an applied social science that uses techniques from economics and other disciplines. In order to understand the dynamics of encouraging human capital development in agriculture, agricultural extension draws on a variety of unique disciplines, including rural sociology and development communication. The Department adheres to a concept in which local realities serve as the foundation for its research and teaching activities, albeit this is not confined to the immediate region.
