University of Fort Hare Application Forms 2022/2023

It was an important institution of higher education for Black Africans from 1916 to 1959, when it offered Western-style academic training to students from all over sub-Saharan Africa and formed a Black African elite. Fort Hare students were part of many subsequent independence movements and governments of newly independent African countries.

In 1959, the university was absorbed into the apartheid system, but is now part of the post-apartheid public higher education system in South Africa. It is the alma mater of famous people like Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Robert Sobukwe, Oliver Tambo and others.
