University Of Cape Town Lung Institute Knowledge Translation Unit; KTU Team

The Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU) is a Clinical Research Unit of the University of Cape Town Lung Institute. It was founded in 2005 to continue work begun in the late 1990s to provide primary care guidelines and training on respiratory diseases. It has since expanded its scope to address all priority conditions in primary healthcare in line with the Institute’s mandate to “address priority health issues in Southern Africa through education, research, and service.
Associate Professor Lara Fairall is the Founding Head of the Knowledge Translation Unit. The Unit is divided into four teams and employs 28 staff deployed throughout South Africa.

Business Management and Administration: led by Faye Eshraghi
Work on PACK outside of South Africa is coordinated through a partnership with the BMJ led by Dr. Tracy Eastman, our Head of Global Delivery. KTU Team
The Knowledge Translation Unit is funded through service contracts for local and international health authorities, and through research grants received from international science funders, including the National Institutes for Health Research, Wellcome Trust, United Kingdom Medical Research Council, and National Institutes for Health Research. The service and research funding streams underpin the Unit’s commitment to knowledge translation, as researchers who provide services and technical assistance, and as service providers who undertake research, promoting relevant research and the uptake of research outputs into policy and practice.
