Who is this course for?

This course is designed for established writers looking to fine-tune their abilities, as well as anyone wanting to break into the journalism industry. Students will gain core interviewing, researching, and writing skills to develop and sell feature articles. They’ll also explore the legal and ethical implications of feature journalism. What to Expect from a Major in Media and Writing

  • Important theoretical stances explain how social media platforms, popular culture, and society interact in African and international contexts.
  • Constitutional, legislative, and industry frameworks, as well as ethical and political discussions concerning how media organizations and social media platforms function.
  • Research on Africa and media theory outside of the Global North

Requirements for a major in Media and Writing:

Prerequisites:

(i) For FAM2000F:  FAM1001F, or at the discretion of the Head of Department

(ii) For FAM2003S: FAM1001F and FAM2000F, or at the discretion of the Head of Department

(iii) For FAM3000F: open to students majoring in Media and Writing who have completed FAM2000F and FAM2003S, or at the discretion of the Head of Department

(iv) For FAM3001S: open to students who have completed FAM2000F, FAM3000F and FAM2003S, or at the discretion of the Head of Department.
