Directions to UCT
UCT has 4 campuses:

  • Groote Schuur Campus in Rondebosch
  • Medical Campus in Observatory
  • Hiddingh Campus in the city
  • Breakwater Campus at Cape Town’s Waterfront, where the Graduate School of Business is located.

The Groote Schuur Campus is divided into 3 parts:

  • Upper Campus
  • Middle Campus
  • Lower Campus.

Directions to Upper Campus from Cape Town

The Rondebosch neighborhood’s Groote Schuur Campus of the University of Cape Town is located on Devil’s Peak’s slopes. From the city, you can go to the higher campus by:

  • Drive by the Groote Schuur Hospital when traveling along De Waal Drive or Eastern Boulevard.
  • The road splits just past the hospital. A right fork (M3 to Muizenberg) should be chosen.
  • Take the Woolsack Drive/University of Cape Town exit (Exit 7 Rosebank – M89) just before Mostert’s Mill (the windmill) on your left.
  • Turn right onto Woolsack Drive at the traffic lights, travel under the bridge, and then make a sharp turn to arrive at the campus’ northern entrance.

Directions to Middle Campus from Cape Town

Follow the directions above to get to this campus from the city, but instead of turning left at the traffic lights, keep going right along a brick-paved road.

The route of approach is down Rhodes Drive from the southern suburbs. Take the northern entry turn-off to the campus, but keep going left to pass under the bridge and turn right at the traffic lights to go to the middle campus.

Directions to Lower Campus from Cape Town

Follow the directions above to get to this campus from the city, but instead, turn left onto Woolsack Drive at the traffic lights. Continue along Woolsack Drive until you reach the UCT turn-off to your left, which will take you directly into the campus with the main UCT Shuttle terminus to your left and the Baxter Theatre Centre to your right. This turn-off is well-marked on the road and is also clearly signposted.

Directions to UCT from Cape Town International Airport

To reach the university from the airport:

  • Proceed on the N2 towards Cape Town.
  • Take the Muizenberg (M3) off-ramp.
  • Continue until you reach and turn off at the Woolsack Drive/University of Cape Town off-ramp. See map.

Then proceed to the various campuses as described above.

Directions to UCT Private Academic Hospital

From the city

  • To get to Main Road, Observatory, use the hospital exit.
  • Pass the first set of traffic lights and the main entrance to Groote Schuur Hospital.
  • At the next set of lights, take a right turn onto Anzio Road (landmark: the St. Peter’s Square shopping center).
  • Continue till you reach the top of Anzio Road, passing the UCT Health Sciences faculty on your left.
  • At the sign for the UCT Hospital Main Entrance, turn right to enter the parking area.
  • To reach the first floor, heed the blue and yellow signage.

From the Northern Suburbs

From the N1:

  • Take the N2 exit toward the city from the M5, then the M5.
  • Exit at Mowbray Main Road, then make a right turn onto Main Road.
  • The third set of lights should be where you turn left into Anzio Road (landmark: St. Peter’s Square shopping center).
  • Continue till you reach the top of Anzio Road, passing the UCT Health Sciences faculty on your left.
  • At the sign for the UCT Hospital Main Entrance, turn right to enter the parking area.
  • To reach the first floor, heed the blue and yellow signage.

From the Southern Suburbs

From the M3:

  • Take the airport/hospital (N2) exit.
  •  Continue in the direction of Groote Schuur Hospital.
  • Cross directly over Anzio Road into the parking area of UCT Hospital’s main entrance.
  • Follow the blue/yellow signage to the first floor.

(Please note: there is no access from De Waal Drive).
