University Of Cape Town Alumni

UCT values its bonds with its alumni and works hard to create links between alumni throughout the world. There are over 100 000 of you, and as diverse as this community is, your shared experiences and memories of studying on our spectacular campus make for a very strong alumni network indeed. This network continues to grow, and it now has a wide footprint not only in South Africa but spans across our continent and reaches all corners of the globe.

One of the Development & Alumni Department’s main objectives is to broaden and strengthen our alumni database so that we can keep you up to date with exciting developments at UCT. We aim to do this through UCT Alumni News, the magazine for alumni, and also news updates from your faculties or national alumni coordinators.

Your alma mater looks forward to welcoming you back, whether to a public lecture, a leadership forum, your class reunion, or just an informal visit. We are arranging more events for those of you who live outside Cape Town too, so please let us know your current contact details, and from time to time also tell us something about your lives and where you are in your careers.

Alumni at UCT

The University of Cape Town is the oldest university in South Africa and has over 200 000 alumni registered who are spread over 164 nations. This thriving, international community shares memories of their time spent on one of the most recognizable campuses in the world, the top-ranked university in Africa.

The university’s overseas offices, which are situated in North America, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, are crucial points of contact for fostering partnerships with researchers and alumni, and donors. Students’ bursaries, scholarships, and support programs are among the university priorities that are generously funded each year by alumni, donors, and friends. Join our neighborhood. The excellence-driven collaboration will help UCT succeed in the future.

What they Do

They are here to make sure that the university and its alumni form and maintain strong bonds in order to protect current and future students from the public purse’s diminishing resources and to make sure that the university can develop so that it makes ever-greater contributions to resolving South Africa’s and Africa’s most urgent problems.

To do this, the fundraising staff puts in an endless effort to find fresh donations for the institution and keep up relationships with our kind contributors. These are the folks who labor behind the scenes to make the university’s initiatives to diversify and become more focused on Africa possible.

Similarly to that, the Alumni Relations unit frequently serves as a point of contact between you and us in the department, whether it be at a lecture in the Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series, a gathering of your local chapter or affinity group, the Alumni Advisory Board, the Alumni Student Association, the UCT Association of Black Alumni, or Convocation.
