Unisa Nsfas Application 2024/2025: Application for Nsfas
The NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) established a government agency under the Ministry of Higher Studies and Training to give financial assistance to underprivileged students who seek to continue their education. Public universities or colleges with a TVET program.
NSFAS applications for student funding for the 2024 academic year are now open
NSFAS applications for student funding for the 2024 academic year are open from 1 September to 30 November 2023.
To qualify for government funding for university and TVET college studies, you must
- be a South African citizen.
- register at any of the 26 public universities or 50 TVET colleges.
- come from a family with an income of below R350 000 per annum (combined).
Students with disabilities and students who are beneficiaries of social grants automatically qualify for NSFAS funding. Students wanting to study towards postgraduate qualifications do not qualify for NSFAS funding – you are encouraged to seek funding from the National Skill Fund and the National Research Foundation.
NSFAS has employed 200 NFAS unemployed graduates to support high learners throughout the country with the application process. These graduates will visit high schools and rural communities with no computer or internet access to assist students.

NSFAS Application 2024-2025 is now open for registration.
Applicants should go to www.nsfas.org.za to learn more about the NSFAS. Click the “myNSFAS” tab in the top right corner of the NSFAS webpage. “Welcome to the myNSFAS student portal,” says the welcome message on the myNSFAS page.

- Click the Apply tab: update your information and upload your supporting documents
- Submit your application
Who should submit an application?
Students who applied for admission to a first undergraduate degree program in the 2024 academic year.
- Returning students who had a gap year in 2024 (i.e. did not study), have an incomplete undergraduate degree, and have not violated the N+ rule.
- Returning and new students who did not study during the 2024 academic year were approved by NSFAS in 2023.
- Students who are currently receiving funding from another NSFAS bursary and want to move to the NSFAS DHET grant.
If you do not follow these instructions, your NSFAS application will be rejected.
- In 2023, NSFAS funding was awarded.
- Having previously earned a bachelor’s degree or certificate are not a citizen of South Africa
- Require funds for a postgraduate qualification or a Short Learning Certificate or Program
Where to apply:
Applicants who plan to enroll in courses at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution under the UnisaTVET Agreement can apply through the relevant TVET institution or online through Unisa.
