It is important to note the following points.

  • Degree applications can only be done online and only when applications are open.
  • Short course applications may be submitted via email during lockdown and until further notice.
  • Applications for Corporate Governance may also be submitted via email during lockdown and until further notice.
  • An application fee is payable and proof of payment must be submitted with each application.
  • Once your application has been approved, you will be informed of the registration date.

Closing Dates 

  • 30 June 2023 – Faculty of Health Sciences (all programs); Bachelor of Architecture; Bachelor of Audiology,
  • Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology; BA in Film and TV
  • 30 September 2023 – All other University programs
  • 30 September 2023 – Residence applications

How to Apply to Wits University

To apply, go to www.wits.ac.za/applications/

  • You may apply for a maximum of three programs (order of choice does not matter).
  • Do you meet the admission requirements for your degree of choice?
  • Apply before the closing date.
  • Apply using your names as they appear on your ID book/card or passport (do not use initials or nicknames).
  • If you apply for two programs within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one program in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce, or Science).
  • Try to keep your study options open, especially when applying for programs in faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
  • Do not enter the duration of the program. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
  • In accordance with the POPI Act, applicants must complete their own application and accept the university’s legal release and pledge. The University does not work with external agents to broker applications on behalf of applicants.

Pay the application fee and upload supporting documents

A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required. Log into the self-service portal.

  •  Use only your Person Number or T Number as a reference

Supporting documents

  • Please upload the attached documents at the time of application. You also have the option to upload your documents after applying via the Student Self-Service Portal https:// self-service.wits.ac.za
  • Current enrollment: Upload final grade 11 results (no printout required).
  • Already registered: Upload certified copies of all high school diplomas/foreign school degrees.
  • Other Universities: Upload a certified copy of the official academic records of all university enrollees, including a statement/certificate of conduct stamped by the registrar of the institution. (Please note that preliminary self-service-generated results will only be considered for the initial evaluation of GEMP applicants.)

Acknowledgment of Application

  • Confirm by email that we have received your application.
  • The confirmation will include your personal number (which will be your student number) and a contact person to contact if you have any questions.
  • All university correspondence records are available on the Student Self-Service Portal https:// self-service.wits.ac.za
  • Regularly check your application status and to-do tasks in the Student Self-Service Portal.
  • Keep your contact details up to date with self-service.

To view all correspondence generated in the Self-Service Portal, go to Main Menu > Self-Service > Wits Student Self-Service > Communication History. Keep your contact details up to date with self-service.

To check your Application Status on the Self Service go to the Main Menu > Self Service > Student Centre > Admissions > View Academic Application Status
