FirstRand Limited was founded in 1970 as a specialist investment bank by GT Ferreira, Laurie Dippenaar and Paul Harris. FirstRand has its portfolio of operating franchises namely, First National Bank (FNB), Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), Wesbank and Ashburton Investments.

FNB (First National Bank) offers retail and commercial banking products and services such as mortgage loans, credit and debit cards, personal loans and investment products as well as transactional and deposit-taking, card acquiring, credit facilities and distribution channels services.

RMB (Rand Merchant Bank) is a financial services brand offering investment banking, fund management, corporate banking and advisory services.

Wesbank provides quality asset finance and fleet management solutions to several varieties of market sectors, while Ashburton Investments provides investment management products and services.

FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship
FirstRand established its foundation in 1998 to uplift and improve the lives of many people in need in South Africa. One of the foundation’s programme is the FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar scholarship. The scholarship aims to provide South Africans with an opportunity to study a post-graduate degree overseas.
FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar scholarship for the postgraduate international study is open to South African citizens in any field at an international university of their choice. The bursary has a value of R750 000 per annum. The successful applicant will be required to return to South Africa for at least five years after graduation.
Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship Requirements and Eligibility

The following qualifications will be considered in the awarding of the scholarship:

  • Excellent academic performance 
  • Leadership skills  
  • Community involvement
  • Applicants who are under 35 years of age will be given preference
  • Applicants should already be accepted by an accredited educational institution
