The Free State’s Central University of Technology (CUT) is a South African university-based in Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State. In 1981, the “Technikon Free State” was established. It was raised to the university of technology level as part of the South African government’s new millennium reform of tertiary education.
What documents should I prepare for the application?
- Current registration: No documents are required to start the application.
- Those who have signed up: need to upload an ID card and old age card.
- Higher qualifications than matriculation: you must upload your ID card, your advanced certificate, your qualifications, and proof of your studies.
Applying for CUT is free.
- People advertise that they can help future students apply. The Central Technical University of the Free State (CUT) advises all prospective students that there is no alternative to the application process described here.
- If you ask for money to assist with your application, you have been created by a scammer.
Important to Note:
- Class Attendance is compulsory
- The medium of instruction is English
- Year programme with important dates (to be updated)
- Calendar 2023: Students are subject to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Central University of Technology, Free State.

Quick Reference: Online registration (senior students)
The following steps should be followed in completing the online registration process:
- Make your way to any computer in laboratories 009, 010, 011, or 012 in the Student Academic Support Center (Bloemfontein Campus) or computer laboratories 110 & 111 in the Student Academic Support Center (Welkom Campus) to register online on campus. Alternatively, you may utilize your own resources (computer and internet) to register online off-campus.
- Attention: New International Students can unfortunately not be able to do an online registration without having done their compliance check with the International Office at Artec Hall, alternatively contact the International Office for guidance at +27 51 507 3798/3885 msejake@cut.ac.za

- Collect your student card, internet access form, and/or parking disc (if applicable) in the Artec Hall (Bloemfontein Campus), and in computer lab 110 or 111 in the Student Academic Support Center (Welkom campus). Bring your proof of registration.
