Admission requirements for international applicants

Admission requirements for the different programs offered at CPUT can be found under Programmes and Fees. You may also be required to complete a series of tests to assist in the placement process. Students following the Cambridge system should take note of the following requirements:

  • Passes of at least five different subjects of the IGCSE and HIGCSE study levels, of which at least two are HIGCSE level subjects.
  • A pass in the language which is the medium of instruction at the University (English or Afrikaans).
  • Specific pass grades: IGCSE: A, B, or C; HIGCSE: 1, 2, or 3.

Evaluation of foreign qualifications

All international undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications obtained must first be evaluated and verified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before submitting applications for studying at CPUT. It is required to be submitted together with your online and paper-based application forms.

You should include the following with your application:

  • All certifications, including the highest school diploma provided by a recognized testing organization.
  • The final certificates for all degrees or other higher education qualifications, as well as transcripts of all academic work completed leading to any post-graduate degree or other advanced degree when that degree is filed.
  • Foreign-language documents must be presented alongside sworn English translations by a certified translator.

English language proficiency

You must have a specific level of English proficiency to succeed in your studies. This includes earning a passing grade in English at the A- or O-level; obtaining a TOEFL score of at least 550; or earning an IELTS score of 6.5. The merits of any further post-school English language credentials will be considered.
